From June 15th – through July 21st 2013 BCB ART will present GARTH EVANS: Same difference - :Sculpture, watercolors and drawings, which will highlight a diverse body of work- to coincide with a retrospective currently touring major museum venues the UK.
As narratives of British sculpture are reconsidered, Garth Evans is emerging as one of the most creative and influential artists to bridge the generation of Anthony Caro with that of Evans’s students, including Tony Cragg, Richard Deacon, Anthony Gormley and Bill Woodrow.
Evans was born near Manchester in Great Britain in 1934. He graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art in 1960 and established a reputation as an original and adventurous sculptor. In 1979, he relocated from London to the U.S.A.
Evans’s work has been exhibited widely in Europe and America, included in over one hundred one-person exhibitions. His work is represented in major public and private collections in Australia, Brazil, Portugal, the U.S.A, and U.K., including the Tate Gallery, the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and, in New York, the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum and the Brooklyn Museum.
A recent multi- authored monograph, Garth Evans Sculpture, Beneath the Skin, published by Philip Wilson Publishers and edited by Ann Compton, is a survey of his career to date.
Also on view at BCBART will be a group show of gallery artists, including work by Frank Cresott, John Foxx, Lynn Itzkowitz, Fred Scruton and others.
A reception for the artist will be held at the gallery on Saturday, on June 15th from 6-8pm.
